Job Description

Our Customer is a world leader in manufacturing composite components for the Aerospace industry, with an extensive reach into civil & military aircraft markets.

They are seeking to appoint an Engineer in Charge to be based at their operation on the South Coast.

Purpose

Supports the Chief Engineer in:

The structural design of product ensuring that the design meets the airworthiness requirements.

Technical management and oversight of the assigned Engineering activities ensuring compliance to customer; regulatory and company requirements and procedures.

Deputising as the technical focal point for designated activities with specific responsibility for the management and oversight of the associated engineering activities ensuring compliance to customer regulatory and company procedures.

Ensuring that the Engineering solution is delivered to the agreed technical quality, commercial and schedule requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Support the work of the Chief Engineer in representing the Engineering function during the acquisition of potential new programmes with customers.

Collate the Non-Recurring estimates associated with each bid. Leading the development of the company technical submission including identifying the Non Recurring cost, technical risk and assumptions and Engineering schedule.

Act as an Engineering interface internally and externally in relation to their programme (s)

Support the assurance that the engineering activities and deliverables are completed in line with the agreed internal and customer schedules and that mitigation pans are implemented for any issues that may arise.

Deputise for the Chief Engineer in the role of Engineering lead at high level technical reviews and programme reviews both internally and with the customer

On behalf of the Engineering function, interface with the supply chain all stakeholder considerations are accounted for in order to ensure that the engineer definition is fully understood and that

Leadership of a multidiscipline Engineering team in the delivery of the agreed engineering programme

Support the generation of an adequately defined Engineering work breakdown structure.

Working with the Engineering disciplines to generate the Engineering SOWs to support specified programmes / activities and where required undertaking final approval of the SOW

Generation and approval of engineering Statements of Work for Internal and External work packages for internal or external (off load) execution

Ensure compliance to customer / regulatory requirements and where appropriate liaise with the Airworthiness Office when required

Co-ordinate / manage effective Design Reviews

Where delegated, perform the role of designated Engineering signatory (e.g. Design / MRB)

To act as an independent Engineering authority to ensure technical compliance to the agreed requirements.

Support the delivery of the manufactured solution in line with the recurring cost and weight targets

To be a member of the Engineering Leadership Team

In conjunction with the Engineering Business Manager & Chief Engineer maintain regular and accurate reporting of the Engineering spend profile.

To support the development of personnel within the Engineering centre

As a key member of the Engineering Leadership team, this role helps to ensure responsibilities for Health, Safety, Environmental and policy compliance in line with company requirements.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Engineering degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering or similar

Applicants should have extensive expertise in Aerospace Engineering with experience in designing, developing and manufacturing metallic and composite components.

Ability to develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements within agreed programmes and timescales.

Has acted as an Engineering lead and demonstrates a proven track record in the delivery of multi disciplined Engineering Programmes in the design phase and into production

Previous experience in acting as the engineering interface with customers

Demonstrates extensive leadership experience across multi disciplined Engineers teams and as part of an engineering leadership team.
