Job Description
A leading company in the aviation sector is currently looking to take on a Chief Engineer to join either their Bristol or Isle of Wight sites. The position is offering a salary circa £60k.
Role Purpose
Leadership role as the Technical Expert for all Chief Engineering Activities on all Design and Build Engine Programmes within the company
Responsible for Product Engine Design components and that they comply with all the Regulator Authorities and Customer requirements in the Technical Specifications.
Responsible to lead and hold the Major Design Reviews on all Engine programmes.
Leadership role in developing innovation in design solutions to complex Engine Product problems using the company's Technologies and Design capabilities.
Key role is to manage and develop Customer Relationships to win new Engine Product Business and develop new business opportunities through the company's Engineering Capability
Report on Engine Programmes progress, technical status, coordinate tasks in Team, monitor and report on engineering delivery performance, ensure tasking is completed to time cost and quality.
Provide engineering input to technical, commercial and contract reviews within the company.
Principal Responsibilities
Leadership of a multi-disciplined Engineering team in the delivery of engineering programmes, including the supervision of a team of engineers, distributing tasks appropriately.
Ability to manage the customer requirements, engineering schedule, engineering deliverables and budget whilst controlling the product configuration and managing the customer expectations.
Working with a team to create the engineering definition for each of the key design reviews necessary to validate the product solution against the Technical Specification
Management of drawing release and engineering change notes
Achieving delivery to time cost and quality.
Provide engineering input to technical, commercial and contract reviews within the company and with customers.
Ensure that all project stakeholders have the right information at the right time, through pro-active communication.
Supporting the team through individual progress reviews, providing feedback, managing performance and conduct issues.
Lead and support the development of an Engineering team
Identify training and development needs to ensure current and future skill requirements are met and addressed through coaching, on the job training and making recommendations for formal training.
Liaise with internal departments to ensure that the team is working to the correct specifications (e.g. Quality).
Liaising with customers at the working level in order to meet their requirements.
Managing workload of self and others to ensure tasking completed to schedule.
Fully responsible for all Engine Programmes Technical decisions on engineering related design issues and approving the design / analysis solutions.
Report on Engine Programmes progress, technical status, coordinate tasks in Team, monitor and report on engineering delivery performance
Prepare reports for customer
Experience
Degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering or similar
Extensive expertise in aerospace engineering with experience in designing, developing, and manufacturing in metallics and composites
Applicants should have a sound background in Aerospace Engineering and managing complex engineering projects.
Ability to develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements within agreed programmes and timescales.
Have a responsible approach to the Health & Safety of themselves and others
Knowledge of processing methods for metallic and composites.
Proactive with regard to new developments in the area of expertise.
Good interpersonal team working skills.
Good reporting skills on project status and progress.
Capable of interfacing professionally with customers and suppliers.
PC literate - MS Office Programmes, Windchill, Product view an advantage.
Experience of Aerospace Engine Materials, Processes and Assembly
Engine knowledge of Aero Performance, Component Design, Product knowledge. In Service experience
Design and stressing criteria for Engine Components
Experience of configuration control and project management.
Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers.
Exceptional interpersonal skills as a leader.
Able to influence stakeholders at all levels but particular expertise in influencing at board level and within a senior peer group will be key.
Must be of keen intellect and able to juggle varied and abstract concepts
Strong minded and committed, able to embody vision and engage people in the delivery of that vision.
Prepared to work on the complete range of company programmes, both civil and military
Able to travel as required by the position including internationally
Desirable Experience
Previously held technical authority
Previous experience operating as a team leader / supervisory level.
Previous experience of working in an Aerospace environment is preferable.
Knowledge of Catia V5, CADDS 5 and Composite Lay up programmes
Knowledge of Nastran and FE Modelling
Holding approved signatory status.
Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
