Job Description

Description Manages technical engineering aspect of projects primarily in areas of design and development in accordance with established company objectives, procedures, and timelines. Manages technical staff consisting of mechanical, electrical, embedded software engineering resources, mechanical and electrical technicians, and machinists. Responsible for resource allocation in a matrix organization, recruiting and hiring, training, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining as necessary. Coordinates with other company departments and personnel, as necessary, to achieve project objectives, including product management, manufacturing, and service personnel. Analyzes technologies, staffing needs, tasks and associated costs required to plan and complete projects. Confers with management and other company staff to determine product design, manufacturing and service needs and to establish scheduling and cost targets. Analyzes and investigates project tasks and assists, as required, in preparing design specifications, analysis and recommendations. Forecasts operating cost of responsible department and provides input for the preparation of overall R&D expense budget and capital needs. Oversees the development and execution of prototype instrument test plans and analysis of results.
Requirements BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree. Strong consideration will be given to Electrical Engineering background with experience managing embedded software development. Minimum of five years relevant experience. Familiar with MCAD (Solidworks) and ECAD (Mentor/Altium). Experience with instrumentation, measurement devices and mechanisms. Strong engineering aptitude for electro-mechanical systems. Proven experience with phased product development techniques and project management, exhibiting ability to successfully manage projects to achieve technical requirements and maintain schedules. Preference also given to candidates familiar with agile software development techniques.
