Learning & Development Specialist (Multimedia)The Position:
The L&D Specialist - Multimedia is responsible for conceptualising and implementing the output of courseware writers, subject matter experts, and instructional designers and producing a final layout compatible with corporate and client standards. Implementation includes interface, graphics, photos, illustrations, video, music, voice, and instructional elements. The interactions must balance visual aesthetics and effective usability to maximize the learning experience. The post holder is an integral member of the eLearning Solutions team, working closely with instructional design specialists and project manager and consulting with colleagues and clients regarding appropriate educational uses of multimedia technologies.
Job Outline
- Manage Multimedia Production: To manage multimedia design and development schedules for assigned training projects. This involves communicating regularly and effectively with project team members, with the design lead, and with eLearning Solutions colleagues and customers as well as stakeholders such as Corporate Communications. The role holder must provide timely and thorough documentation of projects and high quality deliverables while working within budget, meeting deadlines and keeping the project manager aware of workload and potential conflicting commitments.
- Analyse Requirements: To analyse visual and technical characteristics required of learning materials to match agreed delivery hardware and software and produce detailed specification documents. This involves liaison with EG-IT and technical colleagues and includes specification of browser (or other delivery software) brands and versions, including plug-ins and other add-ons; colour modes; image, audio and video formats; supported computer types with minimum and preferred configurations; screen resolutions; programming languages, tools and databases; data to be transferred to and from student management and record keeping systems. Content developed may need to be deployed to a SCORM/AICC compliant learning management system, shared portal, mobile device or stand-alone CD/DVD ROM.
- Design and Produce Multimedia Products: To be responsible for the full cycle of instructional design and build of Rapid Development projects to support learning transfer, integrating multimedia components and deploying solutions via the corporate Learning Management System using tools such as Adobe Presenter and Articulate.
- Manage Audio and Video Contribution: To acquire, coordinate, edit, compress, optimise and deploy audio and video material for delivery via CD, DVD, mobile devices or web streaming. This includes liaison with Corporate Communications to ensure branding, copyright and relevant legal considerations are considered and includes conducting approved audio recording, photo and video shoots within Emirates.
- Define and Manage Quality Assurance and Testing: To manage and conduct the testing and review of multimedia content for technical and accessibility issues, branding, copyright and efficient technical design, whether produced in-house or by external vendors. To test media across appropriate platforms and browsers and ensure integration with the corporate LMS. To define and implement standards for multimedia aspects of online build and deployment including pre-loaders, video and sound quality, frame rates and staging and communicate standards to outsourced vendors. To review vendor products and ensure the production quality of draft/final interactive multimedia content on behalf of the eLearning Solutions team so as to validate the release of payment for work completed.
- Provide Consultancy and Training: To provide consultancy to instructional design specialists and trainers regarding effective educational use of tools such as Flash, Photoshop, Articulate, Premiere, Captivate, PowerPoint, Audacity, general simulation and multimedia tools and related technologies. To respond to requests for technical support in areas of specialisation and to develop and deliver training for non-technical audiences on how to use creative design and development software. To provide direct supervision and coaching to trainees and junior team members.
- Research: To conduct research to resolve multimedia issues or recommend new tools and practices based on software applications, design trends, standards, techniques and best practices for applying multimedia educational technology.
Contribute to Infrastructure Development: To define and build templates and course development engines to facilitate the decentralisation of courseware build to subject matter experts and trainers across the Emirates Group. To identify areas of weakness in created courses based on measurement and feedback defined at the analysis stage and implement improvements through revision or re-development of materials. To liaise with colleagues to ensure that all materials are documented accurately and to create and maintain a core library of multimedia elements such as images, sound, video and templates for re-use.

Experience and Qualifications:
- Degree or Honours ( 12+3 or equivalent ) in Educational Technology, Graphics Design, Instructional Design/Content Authoring or related field) Experience in developing multimedia aspects of instructional materials for adult education.
- The post holder should have experience of working in a large international and customer-focused organisation, providing software solutions to a geographically dispersed workforce to meet defined business goals and objectives.
- Strong verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with trainers, instructional designers, and customers.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members. Ability to work on concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and file management skills as well as time and project management skills.
- Excellent judgment and problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of copyright and web accessibility guidelines as they pertain to online materials.
- Experience of analysis and design, Adobe, and other rapid multimedia development tools.
- Knowledge of encoding audio and video and experience with nonlinear audio and video editing software preferred.
