We have been commissioned by a leading Airline to source an Associate Senior Vice President - Operations on a permanent basis for their HQ in Lagos, Nigeria.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Operations you will be responsible for the following:-
Scope & Responsibilities:-
- Supervise the company's flight and ground operations, operations control plus flight deck and cabin crew, engineering, maintenance and overhaul. Will ensure these operations are conducted in accordance with the relevant Air Navigation Regulations, Orders and Schedules (as may from time to time be amended), within the terms of the company's Air Operator Certificate (AOC) with due regard to flight safety.
- Setting, monitoring and controlling operational standards of efficiency, safety, security and training.
- Liaison with the appropriate Authorities in matters affecting the Company AOC and operations and ensuring compliance with the AOC terms and conditions. Also Maintenance, Engineering, Overhaul (Airworthiness Responsibility).
- Cost control and effectiveness, monitoring performance and achievement, with particular regard to manning levels and budget preparation.
- When applicable advises the Executives on key Operations planning initiatives. Participates in all ops business decisions, makes and sees through all relevant recommendations.
- Keeps the SVP informed about business activities, potential threats, opportunities, and recommended actions. No commercial responsibility.
- Help determine resource allocation and future needs e.g. Fleet and Ops personnel
- Be a catalyst for change. Not afraid to challenge basic / long held assumptions and lead company forward in new direction. Persuasive but demanding character
- Develop long term operational goals and ensure performance meets targets against budget.
- Build an organization culture in which performance matters by communicating rewards/consequences. Culture of accountability and partnership'
- Lead the way in building organizational capabilities. Develop a group of well-rounded, capable subordinates. Oversee (with HR director) the implementation of an effective HR program to build critical core competencies and organizational values.
Experience:-
- Proven experience of Operations Management (7 years minimum) within a medium - large sized airline. Fully qualified in respect to industry regulations.
- Ability to take a strategic view. Proactive. Will help define the future direction of the company.
- Skilled change manager
- Excellent people management and interpersonal skills. Good communicator and presents well.
- High level of knowledge of JARs particularly with regard to pilot training and testing.
- High level of engineering and ground operations background.
- Pragmatic individual who is fully prepared to roll up his sleeves and lead by example. Not afraid to get his hands dirty and contribute wherever / whenever necessary.
- Aware of the daily challenges of operating an airline especially in a tough, challenging, unforgiving environment such as Africa.
- Well-educated with excellent spoken and written English (additional languages an asset).
- Excellent people management skills - a natural leader whom the employees will follow.
- Will quickly gain credibility with subordinates, peers and superiors. Self assured, knowledgeable, competent.
- International outlook and can mix well in a broad multicultural environment.
- Proven track record of managing industrial relations.
Qualifications:-
- Previous COO level experience is very helpful.
- Previous pilot experience helpful but not essential.
