Job Title: Senior Stress Engineer - Contract or Permanent

Location: Burnley, Lancashire

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000. 25 holidays per annum plus statutory days, Flexi time, Employer contributary pension, Relocation package available.

Aircelle is a major player in the worldwide aircraft engine nacelle market. Aircelle has seven sites in France, the United Kingdom and Morocco and employs around 3,000 people of whom 750 are based at Aircelle, Burnley. Aircelle is the only engine nacelle manufacturer worldwide doing business in all segments of the market, from regional and business aircraft to the largest commercial airliners. Aircelle also is developing the worldwide customer support and service activity for nacelles and their components. Aircelle is a subsidiary of Safran, the international high-technology group specialised in aerospace, defence and security.

Job Role

The role requires operation at a senior level within the Aircelle stress and engineering teams representing the stress function at both internal and customer facing meetings.
Driving through New product development and R&T projects, to achieve timescales, requirements and costs
Providing technical guidance and assistance to junior stress engineers and checking and approval of stress work is key.
Developing and validating new products from a structural analysis perspective.

Responsibilities

Definition and application of efficient stress methodologies to support structural optimisation, validation of product and demonstration of compliance to customer requirements for static, fatigue and damage tolerance
Setting up cost effective FEM representation of products for linear, non-linear and dynamic analyses, applicable post processing and interpretation of results
Assessment and manipulation of loading inputs to establish critical load case definitions to be reviewed for structural certification in both static and fatigue conditions
Creation and approval of clear and concise reports of work completed for both internal and external issue
Liaison with customers, suppliers and internal resource on stress related issues and work packages
Promoting and contributing to initiatives aimed at improving the performance of the stress team, engineering and the business
Monitoring and reporting on stress deliverables for the programme and feedback to the Engineering Project Manager
Definition of physical product testing for both R&T and new development work to validate methods and assumptions applied including liaison with test engineers to generate plans and analysis and interpretation of results
Working within Aircelle standard procedures and stress handbook methods
Manage the sub contracting of stress packages, providing technical support and guidance where required.

Essential Experience

Experience of stress analysis in static, fatigue and damage tolerance at a senior level
Experience of stress analysis of both composite and metallic structures
Good knowledge of Nastran and Patran software in linear and non linear analysis
Excellent knowledge of performing hand calculations (using such tools as ESDU, Niu, Bruhn )
Excellent knowledge of preparing stress report, covering static, fatigue and damage tolerance
Good general aircraft knowledge and experience of aerostructures loading and analysis
