RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with scientific and technical authors in the preparation of original articles for publication by The Aerospace Press, primarily for the corporations biannual magazine, Crosslink. Responsible for the full range of activities necessary to take original technical magazine articles through the editorial, layout, and production stages of publication. Performs mechanical and substantive editing, including writing, rewriting, and reorganizing technical text to ensure consistency, cohesiveness, grammatical accuracy, and readability. Works closely with a small, in-house creative team of editors and graphic designers to develop appropriate document designs and layouts, graphics, and text styles that meet professional standards. Work requires high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Original writing assignments may be required. Experience interviewing and writing profiles of people is a plus. Familiarity with aerospace, defense, science, and technology fields desired.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, Communication, or Journalism, or related field. Master's degree in related field preferred. Candidate must have ten or more years of progressively more responsible experience in editing, writing, and publishing for a scholarly or technical audience. Excellent writing, editing, and desktop publishing skills required. A professional demeanor and strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Fluency with The Chicago Manual of Style and the Associated Press style guides is highly desirable. Direct experience with Word, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and related software tools is a plus. Work is on Macintosh platform.
SPECIAL NOTE:
25-40 hrs per week with potential to become full time. Writing samples will be required. Showing a portfolio of work at the interview is welcome. Candidates will be required to take writing/editing tests at the interview.
