Specific Job Description

* Manage effectively all reporting staff including objective settings and personal development plans ensuring the department’s adherence to departmental and LM policies along with their continued development and maintenance
* Detailed working knowledge of the Maritime Systems Engineering domain including Combat Systems, Electronic Warfare, Navigation Systems and Weapon Systems.
* To lead Functional Excellence for System Engineering championing Model Based Engineering.
* Working from broad objectives, establishing lower level objectives, setting Team direction, empowering the Team and the Leads, providing direction and guidance
* Scoping and sizing of new projects and change requests.
* Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with Peers, Line Management, and Executive Management.
* Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with Suppliers at both Peer and Senior Management levels as required.
* Presenting and participating in technical and business meetings at the Executive and Peer level both internally and with Suppliers.
* Maintain an up-to-date understanding of current and future business status to enable effective provision of both resource and capability to meet all business demands.
* Serve as a point for escallation for problems and issues across Maritime Systems Engineering.
* Ensures that projects are completed on schedule following established procedures, schedules, and work plans. Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to achieve results might cause delays in program schedules and result in the allocation of more resources.

* Scheduling, resource definition and management expertise
* Developing high quality technical solutions to be provided to the customer.
* Formulation/reviewing of engineering plans/schedules, facilities and cost estimates.
* Control Account Management
* Management of Risk
* Significant analytical and creative ability and proven judgment in balancing conflicting demands, priorities, risks and uncertainties.
* Good negotiation skills - ability to resolve customer and supplier issues in an effective and productive manner.
* Capable of securing UK security clearance at the appropriate level for this position.
* Willingness to occasionally travel to supplier sites in the UK and abroad.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

* Extensive experience as a Systems Engineering Manager.
* Detailed working knowledge of the Maritime Systems Engineering domain including Combat Systems, Electronic Warfare, Navigation Systems and Weapon Systems.
* Applies an overall business and commercial perspective to all aspects of their departmental operation to ensure that the needs of the ‘external stakeholders’ (customers, suppliers and shareholders) are considered
* Gains the trust and confidence of management throughout Engineering & Technology
