Serco have an immediate requirement for a Surface Finish Technician to join their team at RAF Benson.

Specific responsibilities including but are not limited to:

Supervise a range of technical work, including strip down, repair and refurbishment,
Routine, planned and spray rectification and sign work for military plant and equipment, assemblies, sub assemblies and components.

The Management and supervision of personnel employed within the Surface Finish Facility, including the QA checks and stage checks for all production tasks undertaken.

Processing work according to schedule set by Site Manager or Senior SF Technician. Ensuring surface finish tasks are completed in accordance with the quality policy, procedures and standards required.

Carrying out and compiling aircraft pre-input surveys as directed. Generation, issuing and closure of Works Orders where authorized. Perform independent Quality Control inspections within the scope of their authorization. Coordinating tasking and archiving aircraft and component documentation, monitoring all task registers.

Manual (Abrading), Chemical and Media paint removal methods on Aircraft and Aircraft components prior to repainting. Applying a high standard of paint finish using various paint schemes utilising modern Paint Application Equipment.

Ensuring all calibrated items are within their allocated calibration period. Adequate equipment, tools, spares and materials are held on inventory and are available to perform the tasks. These items are to be controlled and held in suitable storage, in accordance with the appropriate Engineering and Supply regulations.

Comply with all Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and Aviation safety requirements. Ensuring all applicable health and safety procedures are followed and that the necessary controls are in place. Conduct Risk Assessments and prevent entry by unauthorised personnel into work areas.

Notify section leaders of any anomalies, failures, defects, corrosion etc which may give rise to a poor quality product and/or endanger Aviation Safety.

Ensuring that personnel are given adequate training before maintenance of or operating unfamiliar equipment, or before handling any dangerous substances.

A continual recording of all VOC usage within his area of responsibility as per AP 119A-0601-0B Chapter 4.

Maintenance of the paint store and all SF equipment and routine and monthly safety checks. The correct storage of paints and associated materials is maintained within his/her area of responsibility as per AP 119A-0601-0B Chapter 4.

Carry out Scheduled Breathing Air Checks, also ensuring all personnel have the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE). Ensuring that all RPE are maintained and usage recorded on the documentation provided.

Ensure that Security regulations appropriate to the work area are strictly complied with.

In the absence of the Senior SF Technician, to assume overall responsibility acting as Shift Trade specialist for all painting and finishing activities.

Carrying out any additional tasks as required by Site Manager and/or the Senior SF Technician

Qualifications:

- Appropriate experience as a RAF SNCO or civilian equivalent in the trade of Aircraft Painter and Finisher (likely to be not less than 3 years experience) experienced in the refurbishment of Military Aircraft.
- NVQ 3 in Engineering Production Finishing or equivalent qualification.
- Qualified in Plastic Media and Dry Media Stripping and working at Height trained.
- Full driving licence
