The Flight Training

You will begin your training with approximately one month of theory studies at our base in Västerås, Sweden. After that you will head off to San Diego, USA, to be trained in both flight theory and practical flying during 12 months. You will be trained according to European regulations, but you will also obtain an FAA approved American PPL (Private Pilot License) so that you are able to fly solo during your flight training.

During the flight training you will be trained in basic flying, navigation, instrument flying and to fly multi engine airplanes. The theory studies will be done simultaneously, and the theory is made up by 14 flight related subjects. Each subject ends with a final test at the flight school before examination by the Swedish Civil Aviation Authorities (Transportstyrelsen).

After the 12 months in San Diego you will return to Västerås for the final five months of your pilot education. The flight training will advance through instrument- and multi-engine training, an MCC course (Multi Crew Cooperation) and Airline Preparation Course (Advanced JOC). The two last mentioned courses will be done in SAA’s advanced Boeing 737 NG simulator, which will provide you with very credible experience of what it is like to fly a real jet airplane.

After finishing the program you will have obtained the following certificates and ratings:

  • CPL – Commercial Pilot License
  • ATPL Theory
  • ME – Multi Engine
  • IR – Instrument Rating
  • MCC – Multi Crew Cooperation
  • APC - Airline Preparation Course (Advanced JOC)

Regulated by the European Aviation Safety Agency, EASA, you will be qualified to fly for all European airlines.
