Job Information:

Manages the structures department within the EASA Part 21J, CAA A8.21 and MAA DAOS design organisation. Responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the preparation, certification and approval of various aspects of mechanical/structures related design and certification data.

/ The Role:

    • Below is a summary of the main responsibilities including, but not limited to:
      • Provides leadership to and manages the structures design personnel including design engineers, draughtsmen, document writers, stress engineers, etc.
      • Provides the structures element of cost and time estimates to the Head of Design for all new programmes.
      • Manages each structures project to ensure jobs stay on time and within budget.
      • Acts as structures CVE, checking and approving the work of others against regulatory requirements.
      • Creates structural reports for others to approve.
      • Represents the DOA to customers and regulatory agencies within the structures area of expertise.
      • Represents the company at trade shows etc.
      • Maintaining an awareness of current aeronautical practices/issues.
      • Continued professional development: attending training courses, seminars, etc.
      • Ensuring that all design processes and procedures are adhered to.
      • Participating with EASA audits.
      • Developing internal procedures and processes.
      • On-site aircraft surveys.
      • Approval of external testing facilities.
      • Peer group training, e.g. mentoring new staff, developing existing staff knowledge.
      • Liaison with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) or tasked National Aviation Authority (NAA).
      • Addressing in-service difficulty reports/design queries after completion of a design.
      • Providing on-site assistance to aircraft maintenance staff

Detailed mechanical design processes, including but not limited to:

  • Material selection
  • Fasteners
  • Surface treatment

Environmental testing requirements

Structural substantiation reports

Reviewing equipment approvals, e.g. TSO, ETSO

Weight and balance schedule amendment instructions

Air test/post flight evaluation requirements

/ The Person:

Minimum Required Experience:

5 years within an EASA Design Organisation Environment, specifically engaged in avionics/electrical design and certification

Previously qualified as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) in the avionics/electrical discipline, with experience covering CS 23/25/27/29 platforms

Completed 2 years within a Design Office environment producing drawings and reports

 Education/Qualification/Regulatory Requirements:

At least five (5) GCSE’s (or equivalent), to include English, Maths, and a Science subject

Highly skilled in static strength hand calculations with past experience of producing and checking stress/substantiation analysis reports.

English language

Software applications: – Finite Element Analysis software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Desirable Attributes:

Recognised degree level course with an electrical/aerospace engineering bias (or)

Apprenticeship in an Engineering Environment, ideally with an avionics/electrical background supported by (BTEC National/ONC/HNC, etc.) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline

Experience within a UK MAA DAOS Organisation Environment

Autodesk AutoCAD (Electrical)

Hours: 08.00-17.30, Mon- Fri

Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks per year inclusive of Bank Holidays.

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
