Ground Operations Manager - Permanent position - Europe

Vortice Aviation currently have a fantastic permanent opportunity for an experienced Group Operations Manager (GOM) for a leading Support Services organisation who operate in the UK and overseas focusing on engineering excellence.

Role:

The Ground Operations Manager (GOM) will be reporting to the Head of Operations in a functional capacity.  You will be the Nominated Person for Ground Operations and shall report to the Accountable Manager for all regulatory matters in support of the Companies AOC. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all operations are conducted to the highest standard and in the safest manner in accordance with approvals, regulations and contractual requirements.


The GOM will ensure appropriate structure and resources are in place to meet the needs of the organisation whilst operating in full compliance with the Company Policy and Customer requirements. You will chair  Ground Operations Safety Review meetings and attend Safety & Compliance Review board, chaired by the Accountable Manager. The role will also involve developing and implementing policies and procedures for the operation of the company’s fleet and effective service delivery. You will be the Department head for Ground Operations and Line Manager for Ground Operations staff, providing leadership, guidance and support to highly motivated team.

Responsibilities:

The Ground Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring Ground Operations staff are properly trained and tested to undertake their duties in accordance with the Ground Operations Manual in a safe and compliant manner. In addition to Service Delivery responsibilities The GOM is responsible for HA operating base set-up, facilities overhead management, fleet vehicles and JETA1 fuel storage assets; ensuring that all services are provided safely and to the highest standard. Leadership of Ground Operations team, liaison with Commercial, Engineering and Flight Ops to ensure contracted services are delivered safely, to specification, and in the most cost effective manner. Lead the Ground Operations safety strategy. Ensure the Ground Operations Manual is up to date, compliant and distributed. Develop production and efficient management of Ground Operations budgets; reporting on deviations. Develop and enhance internal understanding and awareness of Ground Operations and requirements by supporting internal training activities and knowledge sharing. Address internal and external audit findings. Production and management of Base Overhead budgets; negotiate and liaise with suppliers, utilities and management of repairs

Qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of budget development, budget management, supplier management and the impact on the company’s overall Profit & Loss.
  • Understanding of the principles of project management
  • Knowledge of human factors or human error and their application across all company departments.
  • Knowledge of the helicopter industry and market sectors
  • Understanding of LBA and EASA regulations within both the Flight Operations and Engineering context
  • Knowledge of aviation related safety management systems and their practical application

Experience

  • Experience at a senior management level.
  • Experience of dangerous goods handling
  • Experience as a Form 4 Post Holder, or acceptable to the LBA in such a position
  • Minimum of 10 years aviation experience, preferably with a formal industry qualification and covering a variety of market sectors.
  • Project management experience.
