We are currently recruiting for a build inspector to join our prestigious Aerospace and defence client based in Stevenage.

Responsible for ensuring the Company and Project Quality processes are followed in the Clean Room during manufacture, assembly, test or integration (AIT) activities - including and especially CPS area, which is mechanical and electrical integration.

The Build Inspector reports to the Department Manager and operates in between AIT operators / controllers & the AIT Quality Assurance Engineer. They must work alongside workshop team leaders and managers and advise on matters of quality assurance and control.

Following an initial training period the post holder will work double day shifts (6-2 and 2-10) 20% uplift on the rate when moved onto this shift.

Detailed Activities

Working on own initiative within the clean room environment following written procedures - particularly as Aluminium Honey Combe Panel Process inspector

Reporting functionally to Operations Quality Team Leader

Provide technical comment and advice to the AIT team regarding quality control, calling upon any specialist knowledge as appropriate.

Support AIT operators / technicians in deciding on the severity of an incident or any go/no-go decisions that may be needed

Advise and if required support the AIT team leader on quality matters.

Review AIT work instructions for technical integrity, regarding product quality requirements and standards, whether specific or more general - and reject and assist manufacturing in the correction of errors if needed.

Review drawings as needed in support of a work instruction review.

Verify AIT work instructions for adequate quality coverage through QVP (and KIP if required to do so only). Assist manufacturing in the correction of errors.

Perform patrol inspection, not limited to the inspection of documentation and hardware but including AIT process application, and also the controls and disciplines of the workshop such as: -

  • Cleanliness
  • Tool calibration
  • Training records
  • Request and/or carry out a process audit as and when necessary
  • AIT process 'spot checks'Assist AIT operators / team leaders in the management of local non-conformances and non-conformance reports.The Inspector will not normally be required to confirm the technical disposition for any OR.
  • Verify that technicians are adequately trained and in accordance with the skill matrix.
  • Raise an Occurrence Report if required, and ensure that ORs are implemented fully ready for PA closure. Consult the appropriate groups to check minor OR disposition.

The post holder will have authority to stop work on a particular build.

Essential

Able to read and understand engineering and manufacturing drawing - with an understanding of the non conformance process.

Good understanding of Mechanical Hand Measuring including understanding of resistance measurement with DMM.

Ability to work with Excel spreadsheets for KPI monitoring

Desirable

Previous experience in a QC role within the Aerospace sector.
