Client

Our client, a leading aviation design and certification specialists, due to continued expansion, are now actively seeking a Avionic Chief Engineer to join them on a permanent basis at their offices in Dorset.

Overview

An integral part of the design team and Office of Airworthiness, the Avionic Chief Engineer, shall report to the Head of Design and possess the relevant experience to be appointed as a company Compliance Verification Engineer signatory for avionic and electronic related design changes. In doing so you must assume the correct level of maturity and competence to execute the duties effectively.

Whilst assuming the above name position, you shall be expected to contribute to the quotation and contractual documentation aspects of the company’s operations whilst also fulfilling the requirement for project management activities for the avionic and electrical section.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to personnel.
  • Day to day management of the project workload and progress reports.
  • Customer liaison.
  • CAA/EASA point of contact.
  • Preparing estimates and quotes.
  • Approval of certification plans and records.
  • Classification of projects IAW EASA guidelines (21.A.91 & 101)
  • Approval of system safety and equipment assessments.
  • Technical reviews of design projects.
  • Completion of Aircraft surveys.
  • Personnel assessments and performance reviews.
  • Preparation, checking and/or approval of project design and certification documents, including EWIS/EZAP.
  • MAA DAOS Avionic/Electrical Design signatory

Requirements

  • Strong background in avionics and electrical systems (experience with Interior lighting, IFE, flight and navigation systems is desirable)
  • Previous experience in a similar role as a CVE signatory for avionics and electrical systems.
  • Experience of mentoring and providing technical leadership to small teams in a design office environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to liaise directly with customers at a technical level. · EASA Part 21J and MAA DAOS approval knowledge.
  • Relevant technical qualifications including an apprenticeship, further educational qualifications such as a degree, or specific training with appropriate discipline specific knowledge.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience within the relevant design engineering subject/discipline.
  • Computer literate (conversant with MS Office software such as Word or Excel, and AutoCAD computer aided design software), and familiar with EASA, CAA and FAA websites.
  • Thorough methodical approach to design activities and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Be able to provide evidence of previous active participation in design and design certification processes, and component or equipment development and qualification programmes.
  • Attain a satisfactory knowledge of ATL’s Design Organisation Handbook, company procedures and design standards
