Royal Air Force (RAF) Syerston is currently a satellite airfield of RAF College Cranwell and home to the RAF Central Gliding School (CGS), part of 3 Flying Training School. The operations at Syerston consist of a mixture of light aircraft and gliders with occasional fast jet and helicopter movements in support of Officer and Aircrew Cadet Training Unit (OACTU) exercises and pre-deployment training.

We are seeking an Aviation Safety and Quality Assurance Manager to join the team at RAF Syerston. This role will be to implement and monitor the Serco Mil Part 145 Aviation Safety & Quality Management arrangements in association with regulatory and company requirements at RAF Syerston.

Main duties and responsibilities include:
* Implementing and maintaining the Mil Part 145 Audit Programme in association with regulatory requirements.
* Co-ordinating the compilation, review and amendment of the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation Exposition (CAME), Local Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
* Providing help and guidance to Internal and External Auditors and other employees on Mil Part 145 matters.
* Fulfil the requirements of the Aviation Safety & Quality Assurance Manager as detailed in the CAME.
* Auditing the effectiveness of the elements of the QMS, including at deployed operating bases. 
* Alerting the Engineering Manager, Contract Manager/Director and Chief Air Engineer if significant deficiencies and/or adverse trends are identified during the audit process. 
* Conducting quality and safety awareness, Human Factors and Error Management training as part of the new employee’s induction process and routine staff continuation training.  Reporting to the Mil Part 145 Accountable Manager any irregularities, concerns or issues.
* Implementing, maintaining and promoting the Divisional Aviation Safety Management System.
* Be self-motivated and have the ability to process complex systems and logically think through problems.
* Demonstrates an active two way engagement with all customers and stakeholders including people within the organization. 
* Create, motivate and support teams to achieve success.
* Demonstrates an understanding of Human Factors, Flight Safety, whilst actively participates in the Aviation Error Management System.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:
* Experienced Defence or Civil Aviation Quality Manager.
* Have extensive operational experience in aircraft engineering or aircraft component systems.
* Extensive knowledge in Mil Part 145.
* Must possess a good all round knowledge of national and international regulations relating to the role.
* Previous experience of carrying out Airworthiness Review Process.
* Be able to maintain and analyse data from an aviation error management system.
* Ability to cultivate and promote a positive safety culture.
* Hold a formal auditing qualification.
* Must have completed a recognised Aviation Safety Management course and Human Factors Facilitation.
* An ability to manage, support and develop a wide team of people who are not direct reports.
* Able to provide the Assurance Service effectively and develop plans for succession and response to events.
* Ability to communicate with regulators and senior management in order to plan and deliver a high quality assurance service.
* Able to make choices and judgements based on contribution to the longer term
* Resilient, adaptable and embraces change
* Experienced Defence or Civil Aviation Quality Manager with experience of the Vigilant and Viking Gliders – desirable
* An advantage to be qualified in a relevant SHEQ discipline – such as IOSH and be maintaining CPD – desirable
* This post will be located at RAF Syerston and the individual must be prepared to travel away from RAF Syerston overnight on a regular basis.
