Flybe is the UK’s largest regional airline, employing over 2400 people in the air and on the ground, across the UK and further into Europe. As well as employing over 500 people in Flybe Aviation Services, we also provide line maintenance to our own aircraft within the airline. This function requires support from Engineers and a range of support departments to ensure all our aircraft are maintained to the highest standard. 

An opportunity has become available in our Airline Spares department for an Airline Spares Controller. This role will provide 24 hour support to the Airline Spares Team and Manager. The Controller will be expected to ensure the ready maintenance of stocks including delivery from external companies and the general upkeep of systems to account for the quality and quantity of tools and materials required by the Flybe Fleet. The role is an active business role where the successful candidate will be expected to monitor and evaluate the business needs of the department and liaise with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide Material and Logistics Support, including sourcing and ordering
  • Ensure daily updates with Maintrol assistants are conducted
  • Maintain daily progress reports of all open core issues to ensure all component cores are entered on to the relevant maintenance systems
  • Manage line station restocks
  • Evaluate additional requirements and liaise with internal managers to resolve insufficient stock
  • Coordinate redeployment of assets dependent on operational need, and assist in creation of business cases for new high cost items
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate effective deployment of aircraft spares
  • Monitor fleet and route changes so as to advise on redeployment of spares and rotable assets
  • Provide holiday and sickness cover to the 24 Hour Materials Desk

Skills and Qualifications

  • An understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
  • 6 GCSE's or equivalent experience in a materials and logistics role
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills
  • Ability to Liaise with Internal and External Stakeholders
  • Utilise data by performing reliable and accurate data analysis
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
  • Flexibility in working times to meet operational and business needs and to provide short notice day and night shift cover when and where required
  • Experience within the aircraft industry and/or material and logistics experience is desirable
  • AOG Desk Experience/High Frequency Work Load Management ability is desirable
  • Experience of working within a regulated industry and adherence to procedures therein is desirable
