Job Description

There are very exciting opportunities for engineers in the Military Aviation Authority (MAA). Operating from north Bristol, the MAA is a world-class regulatory body which owns the regulations for designing and flying all types of military aviation and certifies every new type of military aircraft from supersonic jets to hand-held drones. Also, the MAA’s staff venture out to audit of all of the design organizations, flying organizations, maintenance organizations and project teams that are involved in the acquisition, operation and support of the UK’s military aviation world-wide.

The MAA has a variety of engineering roles available for civilians at C1 grade. These are in four main areas: certification of new types of aircraft and major modifications; drafting new or amended air engineering regulations; auditing continuing airworthiness management organizations and maintenance organizations; or auditing design organizations in Industry. Successful applicants will be offered a position in one of these 4 areas, depending on the person’s qualifications, previous experience and personal preference. Some of the roles involve occasional travel within the UK and overseas.

A job in the MAA will give the person a unique opportunity to further develop his/her airworthiness competence while gaining a unique insight into the many ways that airworthiness is managed for differing types of aircraft and air systems. In addition, the Ministry of Defence has access to and delivers world-class training; you will be encouraged to engage in continuing professional development throughout your time with the MAA. For interested applicants who are not currently living in the South West, First Appointment Relocation Expenses up to a limit of £8000 are available to assist with the initial cost of moving to Bristol.

For this role, you should have some knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following: Airframe systems; avionics; aerospace propulsion systems; or aerospace electrical & mechanical systems.

Qualifications

HNC level(or equivalent) OR ONC (or equivalent) and 5 years relevant experience OR 10 years’ service in the armed forces or ministry of defence in an aeronautical engineering role.

For C 1 the starting salary will be £37,071 per annum

For C2 the starting slaray will be £30,424 per annum

Allowances

First Appointment Expenses up to £8,000.

C2 posts attract a Recruiting and Retention Allowance of £5000 per year (taxable)
