Airbus A330 Non-type Rated Captain

China Southern Airlines requires for immediate employment fifteen A330 Captains.

It offers a unique upgrade to A330 captain opportunity to current A320 and A340 captains who are welcome to apply as non-type rated candidates.

China Southern Airlines offers an excellent A330 captain packages with 45 days on/15 days off and 20 days on/10 days off rotation options. It also offers candidates the possibility of being based at select locations in Europe or Australia.

China Southern Airlines is based in Guangzhou, the capital of the Guangdong Province, the third largest city of China. Guangzhou is located about an hour and a half by road from Shenzhen and two hours from Hong Kong. According to Wikipedia, it is the major industrial hub of the Pearl River Delta, one of the main commercial and manufacturing regions of China.

China Southern Airlines is the sixth largest airline of the World by passenger carried. It is the largest airline of China by fleet size. It is one the “Big Three” airlines of China. It operates 456 aircraft with another 56 on order. The fleet encompasses Airbus A320s, A330s, A380s, B737NGs, B777s, B787s and ERJ 190s.

A member of the Sky Team, China Southern has a global reach, covering 193 destinations in 35 countries.

Remuneration and benefit package

For Option A, for Guangzhou base, 45 days on / 15 days off rotations

An all in package equivalent to 347,900 US$ per year before tax for 160 hours every two months

Equivalent before tax remuneration is based on after tax package of 222,000 US$ per year at a Chinese taxation rate of 36.2 %. The net of tax package encompasses the following:

A monthly remuneration package, including allowance and bonuses, averaging 18,500 US$ net of taxes as follows:

  • 18,000 US$ base remuneration for the first three year term including accommodations
  • 6,000 US$ yearly safety bonus paid every 12 months
  • 10 days of sick or annual leave
  • Free commuting flights
  • Six return tickets per year for the family

AeroPersonnel provides candidates with support services in China at screening, induction and throughout the period of service.

For Option B, for bases outside of China 

Same package as for Option A but candidates are based at select locations in Australia or Europe with a flight time of 80 hours per month.

  • 20 days of sick or annual leave

For Option C 20 days on / 10 days off rotations

An all in package equivalent to 242,800 US$ before tax per year for 60 hours per month

Equivalent before tax remuneration is based on after tax package of 162,000 US$ per year at a Chinese taxation rate of 33.2 %. The net of tax package encompasses the following:

A monthly remuneration package, including allowance and bonuses, averaging 13,500 US$ net of taxes as follows:

  • 13,000 US$ base remuneration for the first three year term including accommodations
  • 6,000 US$ yearly safety bonus paid every 12 months
  • 10 days of sick or annual leave
  • Free commuting flights
  • Six return tickets per year for the family

AeroPersonnel provides candidates with support services in China at screening, induction and throughout the period of service.

For Option D, for bases outside of China

Same package as for Option C but candidates are based at select locations in Australia or Europe with a flight time of 60 hours per month.

China Southern Approved Instructors

For China Southern approved instructors, airline pays an additional 1,000 US$ per month.

A four year renewable contract is offered.

Qualifications and experience requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold a passport from a country with diplomatic relations with China
  • Hold a recognized airline pilot license with a valid and current captain type rating on the A330 issued by a member country of ICAO
  • Have at least 6,000 hours total time as a captain or first officer, excluding cruise captain or simulator time
  • Have at least 3,000 hours PIC on multi-crew, multi-engine commercial jet aircraft with a MTOW of 50 tons or more (including all aircraft above 50 tons), and,
  • Have at least 1,000 hours PIC on currently flown A340 or A380, or,
  • Have at least 2,000 hours PIC on currently flown A320
  • Have flown an A320 or A340 as captain within the last twelve months
  • Hold a valid unrestricted Class 1 medical and meet the following age requirements at the time of application:
  • age 53 and below for non-type rated candidates transitioning from A320 to A330
  • age 55 and below for non-type rated candidates transitioning from A340 or A380 to A330
  • non-type rated candidates aged between 50 and 56 are acceptable on a case by case basis
    • Speak English fluently and hold at minimum an ICAO Level IV English certificate or higher (must be indicated on license)
    • Have no record of responsibility for any aviation incident/accident
    • Have no record of criminal activities
    • Provide a Letter of Recommendation for previous airline employer

Non-type rated candidates who are currently flying the A320, A300-600, A310 or A340 as captains and who match the above requirements (with the exception of the A330 PIC time) are acceptable. Non-type rated candidates are subject to a training bond.

Assistance and Support in China

AeroPersonnel provides the best Expat Pilot support in China. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week in English and Chinese.

AeroPersonnel China representatives will be waiting for you at the airport on the date of your arrival in Guangzhou for your screening. They will personally escort you every day of the screening process. They will be there again when you report for work and will assist with your induction with the Airline. They will also be there during the full duration of your period of service in China.

The Application Process

The application process entails the following steps:

  • Initial evaluation based on candidate resume and documents leading to screening invitation
  • Screening in Guangzhou including simulator evaluation, medical examination and ATPL written test (AeroPersonnel provides screening guidelines to prepare for the screening)
  • Upon acceptance for employment, work visa documentation process including non-criminal activity report, license validation and background check
